Passage

Seedpod sculptures

While observing the passage of the seasons I have been inspired by the life cycle of plants, in particular the process from flower to fruit to seed. These sculptures aim to capture elements of each phase, blurring the lines between beginnings and conclusions, emergence and withering, unfolding and collapse.

These themes of contrasts and fluidity are depicted by the medium of thick and rigid paper cord, paired with soft and delicate paper string. Made with an ancient basketry technique called paired twining, these pieces were woven slowly and mindfully.

Passage invites the viewer to consider the fluidity of nature and our own place within it.

These Seedpod inspired sculpture have found homes among private collectors as well as with Sofitel Sydney Wentworth as part of their 2024 grand refurbishment.
